Dr. Alexey Cherevan

Current research

Alexey’s research interests revolve around materials chemistry and involve a variety of functional nanostructured inorganic materials including semiconductors, organic-inorganic hybrids, nanocarbon and ceramics as well as molecular compounds including polyoxometalates, polythiometalates and transition metal complexes relevant to a variety of energy-related applications.

More recently, his interest has shifted towards a combination of heterogeneous and homogeneous fields of photocatalysis where he tries to combine advantages of solid-state oxide photocatalysts such as stability and robustness with high selectivity and flexibility of molecular-sized artificial homogeneous systems.

He is currently involved in the following MMC group projects:

Alexey received his Master Degree in Physical Chemistry (2010) from Lomonosov Moscow State University, Russia. One year later he was awarded with a PhD fellowship from the International NRW Graduate School of Chemistry and moved to the University of Münster, Germany to start his PhD in the field of nanocarbon-inorganic hybrid materials for photocatalysis. In 2014 he received his Doctor of Natural Sciences Degree with Summa Cum Laude distinction. He then moved to Vienna University of Technology, Austria (2015) where until now he works in the group of Molecular Materials Chemistry as a junior group leader pursuing his habilitation.
